The chain of the Enguri/Vardnili HPPs located in Georgia.
Enguri HPP dam is a 272 m high arch dam (one of the highest arch dam in the world). The headreace tunnel between Enguri Reservoir and the Surge Tank is approx. 15 km long and has an internal diameter of Ø9.5 m .
The Gali Reservoir (Vardnili-1 Dam) is composed of 57.5 m high clay core rockfill dam. The Vardnili-I HPP has an artificial tailrace channel approximately 22 km long. Vardnili-II, III and IV have been built on this tailrace channel but, they have been severely damaged during the civil war in the 1990’s and they are still out of operation.
