Espey Tailings Dam is probably the highest tailings dam in Turkey, which is 84m high from the thalweg and 97m from the foundation level. Dam is Designed to provide storage for the boric acid wastes in order not to cause any environmental damages. The dam body is gravity type, Clay Faced and Zoned Random Fill with 435m long crest and total volume of 2,758,575m3. There are two interception channels with 20.85 m3/s discharge capacity. Waterproofing is ensured with combination of geosynthetics such as geomembrane, GCL and natural clay fill.
