The Kajaki Dam and HPP is located on the Helmand River 100 miles (161 km) north-west of Kandahar City. The powerhouse is designed with 3 units vertical Francis type turbines each have 16.50MW capacities. New feasibility offers a two stage increase in total installed capacity; firstly from 51 MW to 101 MW, and with addition of 2×25 MW, ultimately a total 151 MW is studied.
