The Kajaki Dam and HPP is located on the Helmand River 100 miles (161 km) north-west of Kandahar City. The powerhouse is designed with 3 units vertical Francis type turbines each have 16.5 MW capacities. However, only 1st and 3rd units were installed in 1975 and it was commissioned in the same year without placement of the Unit No:2. Rehabilitation of Units 1&3 were completed in 2005 and 2007, respectively.
