
The Kayseri Bahçelik Irrigation Project and Kayseri City Drinking and Industrial Water Supply up to year 2050 is developed by the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works and planning and design works is tendered in 2000. The project is a huge irrigation project with 50.000 ha gross irrigation area where all water demand is supplied from existing Bahçelik Dam. The Bahçelik Dam is a 63.5 m high embankment dam, impounding a live / total storage of 184.79 / 216.14 hm3. The embankment is of zoned rockfill dam construction with a clay core in its centre, crest length 396 m. The sprinkler and Californian style irrigation shall be applied. There are 6 parts in the irrigation area and these parts will be irrigated section by section according to the implementation program. The drinking and industrial water supply capacity of Kayseri city for the year 2050 was determined to be 253.23 hm3 for the population of 2 207 000. Required extra storage capacities calculated and located on the appropriate places to serve by considering the existing city network.
